Ray entertained the Members with his expertise in 'Natural Edge Burr Bowl Turning' and 'What to do with a Banksia Nut'.

The pictures follow the sequence of turning.

Natural Edge Burr Bowl - species unknown as retrieved from a firewood pile by Ray, but maybe Salmon Gum Burr (Australia)

The finished item - Oiled ( with finishing oil) not waxed as that leaves a white deposit. The piece speaks for itself !

     

 

 

Banksia Nut - how to turn, finish, and items to make  i.e. apples/mushrooms/table mats etc

 Ray expressly suggested using caution when turning as the nut has sharp loose particles within the nut's cavities
