Short summary of May Blackcountry Woodturners meeting 18/5/05

At the club meeting tonight, we were instructed in the art of Pen Making by our Club Chairman.

Explaining the procedure for making pens economically.

Points to remember

You don't need to buy expensive tools . Use the potato to prevent glue blocking the insert. Use 5 min Epoxy glue ( gap filling properties ). Vernier gauge ( file points to prevent 'dig ins' ) . Straight skew used to size blank & old chisel similar to parting tool.

Don't sand hot. 600/800 grit & carnuba/friction polish . Finally T- cut/ Brasso /resin polish on Acrylics .

A Segmented Pen, notice the 'soft jaws' on the Lathe for assembling the components

Homemade table in toolrest with abrasive disc in chuck to square blank ends.

A fine selection of Ray's work.

Another enjoyable evening.
